What is Tadalafil?

Tadalafil is the third and so far the last PDE5 inhibitor that has been approved for use by the FDA in cases of erectile dysfunction. The first one was sildenafil, also known as Viagra, vardenafil, also known as Levitra and Tadalafil is the last of the magnificent trio that has changed the way in which men with ED are coping with their condition. In fact, Tadalafil was introduced onto the market in a few months after vardenafil had been, only with much improvement over its predecessors, unlike vardenafil which is only a slightly improved version of sildenafil.

Tadalafil is a PDE5 inhibitor, which means that its mechanism of action is basically the same as those of sildenafil and vardenafil. Namely, Tadalafil works by inhibiting the functioning of PDE5, an enzyme that is found naturally in the human body and which affects the proper achieving of erections. Namely, this enzyme affects the levels and the functioning of cGMP, another chemical whose responsibility is to relax and dilate the blood vessels that lead the blood into the penis tissue called corpus cavernosum. When PDE5 is overactive or when  its levels are too high, cGMP is prevented from doing its job and the blood vessels are not relaxed enough for the blood to enter the penis and result in an erection.

Tadalafil inhibits PDE5, reduces its effects, thus increasing the levels and the efficiency of cGMP, which leads to dilation of the blood vessels which allow enough blood to enter the penis and lead to an erection. It has to be noted, though, that merely taking Tadalafil will not result in an erection, as sexual arousal is still necessary for the nitric oxide to stimulate the release of cGMP. Otherwise, you would be walking with a constant erection for as long as Tadalafil works, which would be inconvenient to say the least.While the mechanism of work of Tadalafil is similar to that of its fellow classmates sildenafil and vardenafil, Tadalafil holds certain properties that make it a clear favorite among the three and by far the superior erectile dysfunction drug.

For one, the side effects of Tadalafil are much rarer and much less serious due to the increased selectivity which means that Tadalafil targets more successfully the proper enzymes without affecting others too much. However, the more important advantage of Tadalafil over the other two ED medications is that Tadalafil lasts for much, much longer than the other two. The effects of Tadalafil can be felt for as up to 36 hours upon ingestion of the pill, which makes it a perfect choice for people who cannot plan their sex life to the smallest details and who do not wish to have to plan every sexual intercourse that they might engage in.When all of this is taken into consideration, Tadalafil is simply the best solution for erectile dysfunction that there is on the market and it seems like it will be exactly that for a long time to come.
